CHARLTON HOUSE

This renovation of a Grade II listed family home in Charlton was shaped by close collaboration between client, architect, and contractor. Working within a modest budget, the project was carefully phased; from securing listed building consent for contemporary reconfiguration, to delivering a watertight shell that the clients would later complete themselves.

The design sensitively reimagines the historic closet wing to create bright, open-plan living spaces that connect family life with the compact garden and long views across London. Large-format glazing, including a distinctive glass-to-glass corner window seat, draws light deep into the home, while earthy brick flooring and contemporary joinery provide warmth and texture.

On the upper floor, vaulted ceilings lend a sense of volume to the minimalist shower room and playful nursery, balancing modern family living with the building’s listed character. The result is a home that celebrates craft, collaboration, and adaptability; a thoughtful evolution of historic fabric for contemporary life.
