IVYDALE HOUSE

Ivydale House is the extension and renovation of a family home in South London, centred around a new kitchen and dining space designed to make better use of a constrained, north-facing plan.

A side infill extension reorganises the ground floor, bringing together the kitchen, dining area and garden while introducing daylight deep into the plan. Exposed timber rafters span beneath a generous rooflight, giving rhythm and warmth to the new dining space while allowing the structure of the extension to remain legible.

Large glazed doors establish a direct connection with the garden, complemented by a smaller picture window that frames planting and draws light into the side of the room. The openings were carefully positioned to make the most of the available natural light without losing the sense of enclosure and character of the existing house.

The interior combines traditional and contemporary elements. A colourful Shaker kitchen reflects the clients' preference for a warm, characterful interior, while natural timber flooring and exposed structure introduce texture and continuity throughout the space. Dark cabinetry to the island provides a quieter counterpoint to the ochre kitchen, with natural timber details adding another layer of warmth.

The project also included the renovation of the family bathroom, where deep green tiles and warm metal fittings continue the considered use of colour and material found throughout the house.
